Intern Spotlight - Jake Greenberg

Learn how Jake built a system that processes every patient interaction in real time

We recently sat down with Jake Greenberg, a student at UC Berkeley studying computer science and linguistics, and asked him about his intern experience at Parakeet Health. Jake joined last fall and shipped an AI tool that identifies patient satisfaction in real-time, which today processes every single patient interaction.

What drew you to intern with us?

What drew me most to Parakeet Health was the innovative work the team was doing and their passion behind it. Every single person I’ve met at Parakeet is deeply interested in solving some of healthcare’s most complex processes, and none of them backs down from a challenge. I knew Parakeet would be a place where I could ask even more hard-hitting questions and be met with a real desire to get them answered efficiently and effectively.

What was the most interesting project you worked on?

The most interesting project I worked on was building an in-house system for automatically detecting patient satisfaction and processing that data to streamline auditing procedures. As our call volume continued to increase, being sure that we resolve issues and identify customer satisfaction in real time has been crucial. This project helped me see how AI can be used to make things more efficient and cut through unnecessary complexity.

What’s one thing you learned that surprised you?

One thing that surprised me is how vast the scope of challenges can be in healthcare. As someone with little previous experience in the healthcare space, I was unaware of just how unique every practice, patient, and situation would be. This variety challenged me to think about building scalable healthcare technologies that can support every customer according to their exact needs.

How would you describe the team culture here?

The team culture at Parakeet is great! From frequent team lunches to celebratory Korean barbecue, I’ve been able to partake in so many different and fun activities even as a full-time college student. The team understands the importance of finding time to connect with one another outside of the important work that we are all doing. I appreciate the consistent positive energy from them.

What are you most proud of from your time with us?

I would say I’m most proud of learning how to make an impact. As an intern, it can sometimes be difficult to take the work you’re doing and generate a real impact that benefits the company as a whole. I made sure to constantly be thinking about how my work can connect to a tangible outcome for the team, and that’s an aspect of my internship that I’m very proud of.

Any advice for future interns?

I’d tell future interns that it’s crucial to be open to learning. Internships are just as much about what you can give to the company as what they can give to you. Being receptive to learning new things about the industry, best practices, or strategies for getting important work done is critical as it allows you to take something away from the internship when your time is done. I know I’ve learned so much from this internship, and it is one of the things I am most grateful for.

We're proud of the impact Jake has made, and we're looking for more curious, driven people to join our team. Learn more about our open positions here.
